Blake Brown & The American Dust Choir release TURNING TIDES (EP) on September 27th, 2019. After an exciting 2018, the band returned to the studio at the top of 2019 with a batch of new songs.

In an effort to break old habits and strive to evolve musically and lyrically, Brown found new inspiration in changes and experiences in his personal life, leading him to view the world through a new lens. Brown and his wife/band mate recently welcomed a baby girl into the world. This experience was one of the main lyrical inspirations for these songs. More specifically, it has been a time of extreme reflection and awareness. The songs are about love, partnership, searching for inner strength, dreams, and ultimately desiring to spread a positive message. Phrases like “we got hope burning like fire,” and “lift me up / don’t hold me under / I got lightning veins / I got a rolling thunder,” display a new found sense of strength and confidence in Brown.

Always inspired by the work of Producers Brian Eno (U2), Daniel Lanois (U2), and David M. Allen (The Cure), Brown intentionally strives for big sound while creating a sense of space and beauty. This approach leaves room for words and messages to spread positive light, all while maintaining a sense of intimacy.

Entering the studio with sketches and templates, the songs reach new heights when members Tiffany Brown (Keys/Vocals), Adam Blake (Drums), Jason Legler (Bass), and Trent Nelson (Guitar) enter the equation. The musical language between these individuals becomes indescribable when they share the same space.

Producer Joe Richmond and Mastering Engineer Rueben Cohen of Lurssen Mastering round out the process of making TURNING TIDES.

And with that, the tides have turned.

Blake Brown is an American singer-songwriter from Denver, Colorado.

After participating in many collaborative projects, Blake Brown formed The American Dust Choir. His idea was to have the flexibility of playing solo, as a duo (with his wife Tiffany), and in various incarnations including a revolving cast of musicians. The American Dust Choir includes friends and musicians of some well-known groups such as The Fray, The Films, and Tennis. The line-up has since galvanized and includes mainstays Tiffany Brown (keyboard/vocals), Adam Blake(drums), Jason Legler (bass), and Trent Nelson (guitar). The band released its debut full length LONG WAY HOME in March 2018. Brown’s music is rooted in acoustic sounds, and characterized by his seemingly simple, but nuanced, melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Marked by a surprisingly captivating subtleness, Brown’s music and stage presence leaves audiences with something to think about and always wanting more.

Following the release of LONG HOME WAY, the band performed multiple official showcases at SXSW in Austin, Texas, including an official showcase at the legendary Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater supporting Keith Urban. Following SXSW, Brown went on the road supporting Justin Townes Earle as an acoustic duo.

Blake Brown & the American Dust Choir performed regional summer festivals in the Colorado area, performed as direct support for acts such as Rayland Baxter, The Band of Heathens, ZZ Ward, and appeared at Moeller Nights GAS Feed & Seed Festival IV. Two songs from LONG WAY HOME, “Fever Dreams” and “Between the Lines” were licensed to MTV.

At the top of 2019, Blake and band returned to the studio with Producer Joe Richmond to complete new material now known as, TURNING TIDES (EP).

TURNING TIDES ~ new songs by Blake Brown & The American Dust Choir will be released on September 27TH, 2019 with regional and national tour dates to follow.

“The band has a lot going for it already, combining the big rock sound of bands like U2 with more somber sonics of The Cure.”
– RIFF Magazine

“Brown’s vocals, mixed with the strum of the guitar, offer the perfect combination of being trapped in your own thoughts – a notion that not only resonates with listeners but also gets them to think.”
– Atwood Magazine

“Brown crafts songs with melodies that become welcome guests in our ears even hours after listening. And his lyrics, often lovelorn, can be clever and evocative without following tired cliches. Truly, these are signs of a great songwriter at work.”
– Hey Reverb

“The Denver singer/songwriter is a solid lyricist and wordsmith who skips over obvious phrasing for more sophisticated, nuanced storytelling.”
– Marquee Magazine
