Rising New Zealand Rap Star Vallé Releases New Single ‘Star’

The Christchurch Hip Hop and R&B artist, singer and songwriter Vallé just unveiled his brand new single ‘Star’, taken from his highly anticipated debut mixtape titled Care For Me, set for release on December 20. ‘Star’ follows a trio of singles ‘Pluto’, ‘Calling You’ and ‘No Love’, which were released this year to rave reviews from both fans and critics, leading to over 100,000 streams on Spotify alone.

‘Star’ was produced by fellow New Zealand native and frequent collaborator Struan Finlay and it sees the singer being vulnerable and wearing his heart on his sleeve in typical Vallé fashion, as the song was written right after an argument with his wife. The track seamlessly fuses rap and R&B, led by a glorious bass-heavy slow building musical backdrop, with Vallé reminding himself of all the times his life partner has stood by him and paying homage to the ‘Star’ that she is to him.

Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Star’, Vallé says, “It came directly after an argument we had just had one night. I was frustrated and couldn’t sleep, so I started writing to vent, but by the second verse, I realized something. I reminded myself that when I had nothing, she still rode me, and she was still about it, so when times get tough and disagreements occur, as they always will, I need to remind myself of all the times she has had my back, just as I did when I was writing this song”.

Vallé is the brainchild of Enjalas Jenkinson, who began writing poetry and songs at the age of 10. Under the moniker Enjalas, he practised his craft within the local Christchurch music scene, supporting New Zealand rap names such as JessB, Smashproof, and UnchainedXL. Fast forward to 2019, and he is excited to introduce the world to his new project, VALLÉ, which is already being championed by New Zealand tastemakers including Under The Radar, Mia FM, Flava.
