Sarah Neufeld Releases New Song, Sophomore Album ‘The Ridge’

The Ridge, the latest release from Sarah Neufeld is out later this month and today we were given another glimpse into the stunning LP. “Where The Light Comes In” shows yet again Neufeld’s ability to use her instrument to connect deeply with the listener. Stereogum write “Its beautiful arrangement has a feel of false starts, with each flourish of strings and ambient sweeps given the proper room to breathe and echo before the next begins. Long, delicate, high violin strokes are balanced by the dark, ominous sweeps creating a terrific tension that has a calming effect.”

Neufeld explains her motivation behind the piece telling us it’s “…a piece I wrote in a moment of peace. Those glorious seconds where all is quiet and open and green and the thoughts that form are snowflakes instead of lists of details and reminders. Pure deep water that never ends.”

The new album finds Neufeld moving away from Hero Brother’s classical minimalism and sepulchral ambience, and into the world of rhythmic pop minimalism. The Ridge also features Arcade Fire’s Jeremy Gara on drums, adding greater layers to the compositions, creating an intense, dynamic atmosphere, and a captivating listen from start to finish.

Neufeld will be touring extensively as a soloist, in support her upcoming sophomore release in 2016. Tour dates are listed below.

The Ridge, due out on Paper Bag Records February 26th.
