Maiko Watson teams up with production team My Last Crush for their new single, “Do It For Love.” The track is a dance anthem that as Maiko puts it, “tackles the risk we take on love and what a contradiction it can be; how it can feel both good and bad, but we fall anyway.” Sonically the track has an undeniably huge hook laid over playfully layered synths that play beautifully in between the pulsing percussion and bass. The track is being released through Toronto-based singles label, The Confidence Emperors.
The Artist
One classically trained producer/songwriter with a knack for writing pop songs came from London, England and one producer/songwriter/techno-rebel with an affinity for programming came from the east coast of Canada. They met in a recording studio, formed a group, released an album and broke up. They found this liberating. They could pursue their own projects and work together whenever it suited them. They could write whatever kinds of songs they wanted and use whichever singers fit the songs. That is why they are called My Last Crush.
The Singer
A dynamic performer since elementary school, Maiko Watson brings a fresh take on soul. Influenced by artists ranging from Billie Holiday to David Bowie, her radiant sultry voice shines through; delivering a powerful, earthy, organic sound that sets her apart from other singers.
