Swedish soul-pop sensation Seinabo Sey has released a new single and video for the song “Pretend” today as the first tease of her debut album due to be released later this year on Virgin Records following her critically acclaimed EP For Madeleine. “Pretend” is a fascinating blend of noir pop with a dance floor beat and Sey’s signature powerhouse vocal. Lyrically the track is an anthem about not letting the worries in your life hold you back, and accepting that which you can’t control. The “Pretend” video premiered today on The FADER, watch it here. The track is also available to download or stream.

“Elegance, thy name is Seinabo Sey,” declared SPIN, while The New York Times praised the “power and determination in her voice and lyrics.” Sey was dubbed one of Rolling Stone’s New Artists You Need To Know and NPR Music recently named “Hard Time” from her debut EP one of their Songs We Love 2015. Sey was named Best New Artist at the GRAMMIS Awards, the Swedish equivalent of the GRAMMY Awards.

Sey recently completed her biggest headline tours yet in the U.S. and U.K. and is appearing at festivals across Europe this summer. She was one of the must-see acts this year at SXSW and made her U.S. television debut on Conan performing her hit song “Younger.” She is currently putting the final touches on her debut album which will be released this Fall. Recording with long-time collaborator Magnus Lidehäll, the new album is expected to reflect a creative life spent living in both Africa and Europe. The pair has formed a songwriting style built around her gripping vocal performances and his understated, hook-laden synths and beats.
