Young Gully Shares “Show Me Love” Ft. OMB Peezy | Announces ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ LP Due 9/14

East Oakland native rapper Young Gully shares the lead single “Show Me Love” (ft. OMB Peezy) off his forthcoming LP Eyes Wide Shut, due September 14, 2018 on his label YHTM (Young Hustlaz Team Muzik). HYPEBEAST premieres the track, writing, “An intensely-personal effort, Eyes Wide Shut is being promoted with an introspective, reflective lead single titled “Show Me Love.”

This is the latest release from the prolific rapper – Young Gully, the rap moniker of Michael Watkins, has released over 20 projects including mixtapes and full length albums. This project boasts features with fellow Bay Area legends like Teespeaks, DJ Fresh, OMB Peezy, and more.

Young Gully turned to music after a turbulent upbringing. In 2006 he lost both his best friend and cousin to gun violence, watched his mentors battle addiction while struggling with his own substance abuse. Young Gully channeled his pain into his music – each track filled with high octane lyricism and vivid imagery of the traumas he witnessed growing up in the streets of Oakland.

The rapper also has an impressive resume in the Bay Area hip hop scene. He has appeared on songs with Bay Area legends like Too $hort, Mistah FAB, Philthy Rich, E-40, Dead Prez, Mozzy, Nef the Pharaoh and more. His ties to the Oakland community run deeper than the music. In 2009, he worked with journalist Pendarvis Harshaw on his Oscar Grant Project mixtape – all proceeds went to Grant’s daughter and uncle in the aftermath of his death at the hands of an Oakland police officer. Grant’s tragic murder was documented in Ryan Coogler’s 2013 film Fruitvale Station.
