Premiere: Trevor Wesley ‘Girls’ (Barbie Video) tribute to MCA and the Beastie Boys legacy

Who is Trevor Wesley?

Trevor Wesley is regarded as the “Peoples Crooner” with his effortless rhythms and contagious melodies. At 24 years-old, Wesley has already received praise for his classic sound by industry legends including Stevie Wonder, Patti LaBelle, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, and Warren G to name a few. A talent who has touched the hearts and minds of millions of music lovers around the world, Wesley’s new video for “Girls” is set to surpass the millions of YouTube views that his debut received.

“Trevor grew up knowing the Beastie Boys latter work and was just recently introduced to their iconic debut album, Licensed To Ill. Upon first listen, he was immediately inspired and went to work on a re-make of their classic, “GIRLS” to kick off his 4 part #HOMAGE series in which he will release new productions inspired by the work of some of his all-time favorite artists…This song will not appear on his upcoming Chivalry Is Dead album but he felt the 4 year anniversary of MCA’s passing was the ideal time to release this song in celebration of MCA and the Beastie Boys legacy.”

Song inspiration

MCA (Adam Yauch) passed away at age 47 on May 4, 2012, and was a tremendous influence on Wesley’s music writing with his sharp wit and catchy word play. To pay tribute on the anniversary of his passing to one of his favorite artists, Wesley not only wrote and recorded a beautiful new version of “Girls,” but also created and directed a hilarious music video to accompany the song.

Overall Rating: 4/5 an exciting sonic tribute to MCA and the Beastie Boys. Trevor took an iconic song, added a new dimension while staying true to the fun of the original. Looking forward to more of his music.
