The Hype Magazine Interviews LaConda Davies

From the outside looking in, who is the artist and individual “LaConda Davies”?

From the outside looking in, LaConda Davies is a pure soul that loves the sound of her own voice. Her dedication to her craft is like a beautiful love affair that can only be understood by really listening to the words in her songs. She writes from her heart and treats people she encounters with that same heart.

What brought you to the entertainment industry and more specifically, music?

I believe that I was just put in the industry lol. I don’t think I really had a choice. As a young child, I only remember singing and particularly humming and tuning my voice to the vacuum cleaner when my mom was using it. Yeah, I know that sounds strange but when I look back, I believe the “musical spirit” inside of me needed to be satisfied with that type of thing. I mean i was very young and didn’t know anything about music but loved to tune myself to sounds around me. What brought me to music you ask? God.

What do you feel is the best song you’ve done so far, and why?

Well, I think all of my songs are my best songs lol. But instead, if you don’t mind I want to give you two. My first “best song” is “Same Me” which is my anthem and it’s not only for women but for every individual that has felt like they have to fight to stay who they are. My second “best song” is “You Can Get It” song collaboration with Cardi B producer J White. This song empowers one to feel liberated, sexy and confident.

Tell us about your current project the “LaConda Davies EP” and what it means to you in the grand scheme of things?

My self titled album is a long time coming. Every song and a lot of my lyrics are an extension of me. Through the years I have experienced many emotions from people, places and things and this album tells my journey.

Outside of your own tracks, what artists’ groove and move you?

Artists that groove me? Let’s first start with Chris Brown. I love his voice, always has. It’s just soothing to me. Another artist would be Shirley Murdock. What a voice!! I would sing her songs repeatedly. I didn’t know what they meant until I got older lol but she was definitely one of my favorites. The other artist that grooves me is Mr. Melvin Williams. Gospel music was my first love and getting to know and work with one of Gospels greats and hearing his distinct voice moved and grooved my spirit.

In conversation, we talked about how he wanted to preserve gospel music and he was so passionate about it that it breathes new life into my music adventure.

What do you feel has been your greatest achievement so far in your career in the music entertainment industry?

Dang, I’ve done so much in my life that I’ve felt was my greatest achievement and I want to talk it about it all but I know I can’t so I’ll just do an “any, many, minny, moe” and tell you about the Gap Experience. I had the pleasure to tour with a band that was way before my time but when I got my first opportunity to listen to their music, I immediately fell in love with that Gap Band Sound. I always wanted to go on a tour and this just fell in my lap one day. My second greatest achievement was my Grammy placements and nominations in 2017. As an indie artist, writer, and producer I was shocked to find out that my 3 self-produced songs made it in 4 categories on the ballots up to the final stages before the top 5. It may not be much of an achievement to anyone else but to do this by myself with the help of Al Gomes, this was everything to me. It gave me confirmation that I was good enough to do this and to keep moving forward.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music?

I’m a busy body. I have a passion for everything. If I’m doing it, I love it. But one of the things I will highlight is the volunteer work I do to help women at Dress For Success in Dallas with Dr. Lauren Freeman who has become a very close friend of mind. The story of how Dr. Freeman and I met in passing years ago to how we met again through a mutual friend was nothing more than destiny. We shared the same passion to help people and we put our all into whatever we touch; making this a friendship worth keeping for a lifetime.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know… What can we expect next from LaConda Davies?

You can expect LaConda Davies to be on tour in a city near you. You can expect to see me changing lives everywhere I go and using every platform that I’m apart of to help others succeed in their dreams.
