Who Is MoneySlimm?

Tavarus “MoneySlimm” Barnes (born July 22, 1984) is an American Music Artist, Record Producer and businessman born in Birmingham, Alabama, He is the Founder and CEO of Own Lane Money Gang, LLC. MoneySlimm started from humble beginnings, raised by a single mother in Collegeville Projects, he watches his mom work hard every day to make a living for him and his siblings, this is where he acquired the heart of the hustle.

By the age of 14, his mother decided to relocate to Atlanta, GA to unite with family and to try to make a better way for her children. The Southside of Atlanta was a different breed, a different culture….Rap was beginning to take off in Atlanta with the likes of Dungeon Family, Goodie Mobb, and Pastor Troy, ATL was quickly becoming the place to be. Money Slimm would sit on the porch with his cousins and his “Street Brothers”, creating free-styles and rapping about the struggles of life. Rapping became an outlet! Rap started to become the dream however rap wasn’t paying the bills.

Although Atlanta was becoming the Black Mecca for Rap, Atlanta was the HOTBED of guns, drugs, and violence. Atlanta was truly living up to the name of the “Dirty South. Money Slimm was starting to see there may be a way in the streets to survive, he couldn’t continue to watch his mother struggle on her own-he jumped off that porch and started to hustle. Around the age of 17, The way of the streets started to take a toll on Money Slimm, it wasn’t too long until Money Slimm became a casualty of the state! In 2003, MoneySlimm began to serve his prison sentence. While in jail, he realized that he was destined for greatness, his life had a purpose bigger than this. He knew if he had a chance he had to change his mindset!

He lost many loved ones while he was down the road, he missed many occasions! He knew this could not be the way. The Goal became to be true to himself, travel his own path, Prison was a pivotal time in his life, It is where he made the decision that he would start paving his OWN LANE! The change wasn’t instant, he served a couple of short stints in and out of Jail however the last time he walked out those bars was truly the last time! Money Slimm began to build up the community he was taught to destroy, he reunited with the Family that he grew up with! His family had also struggles in the rough streets of Atlanta however they knew the time was here. The Struggle had created a sound, a Grit that Atlanta needed….It was time to show Atlanta that the sound of hunger, the sound of pain, the sound of the hustle hadn’t died with Tupac and Biggie, Hadn’t diminished when Pimp C left, there were some new soldiers on the rise!

Money Slimm formed Own Lane Money Gang in 2013 and brought his family on as an artist. Own Lane Money Gang is widely becoming a breakthrough label. Money Slimm turned the life of poverty, struggle, crime, and violence into a story that transcends time. You can achieve, You can make it as long as you be yourself and stay true to who you are! This a label of Soldiers, of Survivors….Don’t try to Swerve over here and ride this wave, To Travel this road, one must stay in their OWN LANE!

As you see your self, who is Slim?

MoneySlimm is a Man of Character that stands on certain principles & morals with standards for himself.

What brought you to the entertainment industry and music specifically?

I was brought to the entertainment/music by way of an outlet of expressing myself and relating to the different artists in the music industry.

What and/or who influenced the sound you bring today?

To be honest, those around me and most of the artist from the 90’s til now. I embraced a piece of all of em and built my own sound.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

What happened in my career that made me know the industry is for me is when I start seeing artists with similar backgrounds be able to make a living off of music and when I actually started getting paid for my craft.

What was the biggest obstacle in getting to your current career phase?

Actually taking a leap of faith and believing in myself.

What do you want people to get from your music?

I want people to get that feeling you get when u hear something you can relate to once you hear it. And that feeling could be any feeling (excitement, a sigh of relief, encouragement, turnt, focused).

Tell us about your current project?

My current project is my new Single, “ E’erbody” it’s a joint I made about the flip side of the game where certain individuals act to be certain kind of individuals in the game but when they run into the downside of the game they become the total opposite and some just ain’t who they say they are from the dribble.

What do you feel has been your greatest life achievement so far?

My Greatest life achievement so far is being a Great Father! Nothing Tops That!!!

If you could collaborate with one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

That’s a hard one cause at the end of the day I DiGG a few artists music but I like to go off vibes and character. The reason being is just because I like your music doesn’t mean your temperature at the right Level, Ya DiGG!

If you had to pick one song of yours, that really explains YOU, what would it be?

The one song that probably explains who I am the most would be “U AINT WALK IN DEEZ” which hasn’t been released yet.

No doubt about it Georgia I been here most my life so that’s kinda easy. No Shade tho it just is what it is.
