Netta – “Ricki Lake”

Netta’s “Ricki Lake” (S-Curve Records) is a charming, tongue-in-cheek, absurdist love letter to American culture that has notched nearly 3 million views on YouTube globally. And today, the worldwide infatuation with both the song and Netta grows further with the release of three remixes which come from very different corners of the world: the United States, Russia, and Netta’s home of Israel.

The quirk-pop of Netta’s original version has been embraced and given new creative perspective by three unique voices in the global electronic music scene: award-winning stateside DJ Joe Maz throwing down the gauntlet with a speaker-shaking, alarm-sounding, and ground-pounding re-envisioning, while multi-platinum Moscow-based electronic duo Filatov & Karas play up the pop sensibilities of the song with a spirited retake that includes a rallying backing chorus, synth-assisted heavy bass, and flute solo, and finally a high-velocity reinvention by Israeli songwriter/producer BQ that bounces with staccato strings and a frenzied build that pairs perfectly with Netta’s ferocious performance.
