British Nigerian Hip Hop Artist BREIS Unveils New EP ‘Arise & Shine’

South London based Nigerian rap artist and musician BREIS has released his new EP Arise & Shine. The project offers a fusion of afrobeats, on-point rap parts, and reggae tunes. In addition to that, the EP comes with encouraging lyrics, such as a behind-the-scenes book that details the making of the project titled Diary Of A Creative Mind.

After his highly praised solo rap cut “Stay Diligent” and the latest release of his hopeful fusion track “Wahala” in collaboration with German Nigerian neo-soul singer Nneka, BREIS now returns with his completed 5-track EP.

Further the project includes the EP’s title track “Arise & Shine” underpinned by a funky backdrop. For the track, BREIS collaborated with French producers SLN and Clais Lawrence. The EP flows to the next song “Give Dem” in which Breis is showing us all his rap skills with double-time flow lines and an afrobeats-leaning sound.

BREIS ends Arise & Shine with a hopeful yet broken beat track “Keep On” featuring Joy Jones. The whole EP was organically a way for BREIS to deal with the loss of his mother in 2017. “Throwing myself back into the music and my work helped me adjust to a new normal”, he points out.

About the title, the artist explains further, “one of the things mum would often say to me was, ‘arise, shine for your light has come’, which is what inspired the title of this project”. At the end of 2018, BREIS needed to clear his head and take a break from London. His three weeks journey to South Africa had an enormous impact on the EP.

The EP explores life growing up in London and Lagos, believing in your worth, not hiding your brilliance, and keeping on despite adversity”, he says about the thoughts and emotions behind the project. With his music, he wants to uplift people, especially in uncertain times of an ongoing pandemic
