0Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith On The “St. Augustine At Night” Single, Writing, Influences & More
Comprised of frontman Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, bassist Wylie Gelber and keyboardist Lee Pardini, Dawes first made people take notice with the 2009 full-length album North Hills. Each subsequent Dawes release, including 2016’s We’re All Gonna Die and 2018’s Passwords, has reached the top 10 spot (or better) of Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts.
October 2, 2020 is scheduled to bring the 7th studio album from Dawes — the first of which for new record label Rounder Records — Good Luck With Whatever. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit) at Nashville’s famed RCA Studio A, several singles from the album have already hit digital outlets, including “Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?” and “St. Augustine At Night.” Meanwhile, July 2020 brought an Emmy Award nomination for “Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics” for a song Taylor Goldsmith penned for This Is Us.
I had the absolute pleasure — and I do mean “absolute pleasure” — of speaking with Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith via Zoom on August 25, 2020, as embedded below.
