Moonlight Social Unveils Stunning New Single “Old Love”

Recently enough, Moonlight Social made the decision to abandon traditional music industry gate-keeping and take a fan-forward approach to their music. A main pillar of that was returning to home recording, a move which has let the band focus intimately on their music, and has allowed them to reconnect with what they truly love about being artists. Their most recent release out today, “Old Love”, perfectly embodies this approach, as it provides a comforting, stripped-down take, which values connectedness overall. With the whole track consisting of just a soft electric guitar, the band’s signature dual-vocals, and the occasional harmonica, Moonlight Social will waltz right into your heart.

Moonlight Social is an alternative music duo formed by Jeremy Burchard and Jennica Scott. Longtime best friends, the pair met as members of The University of Texas Longhorn Band (Burchard as a member of the drum line, Scott as a trumpet player). The duo cut their teeth on the road, playing hundreds of shows out of their home base of Austin, Texas. In 2016, Moonlight Social relocated to Nashville, Tennessee.

Moonlight Social’s Jeremy Burchard gives insight on the piece stating:
We like to say “Old Love” is kind of like being a fly on a park bench during a bittersweet breakup. You know the kind, where the people still hug at the end? This is that song. It’s not about anger or confusion or bitterness or empowerment or any of those other totally valid feelings you go through during a breakup. It’s the musical embodiment of that moment you let out a deep sigh and say to yourself, “Well….shit.” This song is special to us because, through its simplicity, it highlights the foundation of this band: two voices, a guitar, and unfiltered honesty. And also a saxophone solo ; )”

The band, a country-pop duo originally based out of Austin, TX, made the move to Nashville in 2016, four years after the release of their debut album Heading South. Since then they have made fundamental changes to their approach towards music, not compromising with labels, booking agents, etc., and doing everything their own way. “Old Love” demonstrates this uncut nature at its core, as the band opens up lyrically, while slightly shutting down sonically––delivering the powerful message encapsulated by the namesake line, “we go together so effortlessly / old love and me.” The band’s string of singles is setting the band up for their sophomore LP due in the fall, which by the sound of their recent work, could be their best project yet.
