New Zealand/Australian Rapper Saint Lane Drops Quarantine Song ‘Dusty’

Having just wrapped a huge 14 shows supporting Lime Cordiale on their tour of the East Coast of Australia, Gold Coast via New Zealand rapper Saint Lane today unveils his latest track ‘Dusty’. Over a beat from producer Danny Duke [Lizzo, Noname], Lane raps about looking disgusting and getting judged by his dusty look, with his vocals recorded in a makeshift studio set up in the hotel room where he was quarantining after returning from overseas.

I had to fly back to Australia from Canada because of the whole pandemic thing, so I was locked in a room on the Gold Coast doing quarantine, bored out of my mind,” explains Saint Lane. “I jumped on a call with my producer Danny Duke and we started making some music. I’m sitting on a back catalogue of some pretty heavy songs with a lot of personal meaning to me, so we flipped it. We made a fun and bouncy track, the most immediate banger we’ve ever made. I recorded the vocals on a Blue Yeti from JB Hi Fi on top of a fridge. In a couple of hours we had this track completely estranged from the sound of my discography. I can’t wait to play this song live.”

Consistently flipping between genres, ‘Dusty’ harks back to Lane’s hip hop roots, first heard in his debut cut ‘Zip Code’ and follow up ‘Compliment My Shirt’. Since then, Lane has flexed his vocal stylings to tracks including ‘Hickeys’, the powerful hip hop track ‘The Family’ and his recent collab with Robbie Miller, the Billboard-premiered ‘When Did We Grow Up?’ which showed a new vulnerability and versatility  to Lane’s songwriting, delving into what he called the worst year of his life.

Originally slated to support Post Malone favourites Lime Cordiale at two of their shows, the group was so impressed with Lane’s live show, they invited him to join them on an additional 12 shows, introducing Saint Lane to a legion of new fans. This follows on from Lane showcasing at BIGSOUND last year, support duties for the likes of J.I.D and a 10-date tour earlier in 2020.
