X. Ari Discusses Visceral Genre-Bending New Track ‘Take Me Home’

Toronto-born singer songwriter, X.ARI, deftly dances in and out of genre lines, moving from alternative pop to gritty hip-hop production under a cover of electronic elegance. Her visceral lyrics transmit messages of hope as often as they ponder tragedy.

ARI recently released a new single, “Take Me Home” – an anthemic electro-pop track about taking a leap of faith when it comes to love.

Listen to “Take Me Home” and check out the interview with X. Ari below!

What makes ‘Take Me Home’ different from your past work?

It is definitely more on the EDM side than my past releases. I don’t usually do a DJ like drop after a hook so that’s new for me. It’s fun to try something new. My next release after my 4th EP “As You Are” out Oct 9th will also have a DJ drop. With electro pop I feel like I can experiment and incorporate other genres into my sound.

Can you describe the concept behind the track?

The song is about new romance and hope. Two people met on a summer vacation and one of them doesn’t want it to end and hopes the other takes them back home to New York. It’s a bit hopeful yet tragic and open ended because we don’t really know if this person wants to bring the other home. I hope this song encourages people to not hold back when it comes to love and to have the courage to put yourself out there when you meet someone special.

How would you describe your artistic evolution throughout your career?

That’s a tough question! Sonically my first record was a bit more to the left of center pop. As I’ve grown and written more EPs my music has evolved into electro pop with alternative and hip hop influences. I have always enjoyed writing about powerful topics such as sex trafficing, double standards on sexuality, abuse, loss, growth, and change, however as I’ve developed I’ve focused my writing on love and mental health.

What’s been the biggest change in your life over the past year?

The biggest challenge over the past year has definitely been my dating life, lol! You wouldn’t believe the stories and dates I’ve been on. I have been in the dating scene for 2.5 years and it’s getting exhausting and a little more difficult than usual with covid. Here’s to finding love in 2021… I hope!

What song by another artist do you wish you had written?

Another great question! I wish I wrote anything by The Beatles. They paved the way for songwriting in my opinion. Their songs are full of catchy ear worms and hooks all tied up in a 2.5-3 min experience. It’s very impressive to think that the Beatles likely set the standard for writing pop music.
