LaToya London: The Re-Introduction

Let’s hop right into this latest single / video “Forever” — Tell me about this particular track? How did it actually come to fruition?

I actually wrote it for another artist, but then had the opportunity to consider it for my own project. I then tailored it to me and my personality.

Of course “Forever” comes courtesy of your forthcoming – not to mention long overdue – new / still untitled sophomore solo collection — First things first, why such a lengthy delay between projects?

Between living life, performing for private events and starring in various musicals and stage productions, I was pretty busy. I wanted to really do it right; getting back into the music business. Building the right team, and having great music was a process I did not want to rush. So now, here I am!

Any specific details; i.e. title, favorite selection(s), producer(s) credit(s), cameo appearance(s), etcetera, that you can reveal and / or divulge regarding upcoming said set at this particular point in time?

It’s a surprise! You’ll want to stay tuned in.

So what all exactly had / have you been up to, both personally and professionally speaking, during this fifteen plus years musical hiatus?

I was living life, writing and recording music, I graduated from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, performing for private events, and starring in various musicals and stage productions.

Tell me your whole inception into music – When did you first become interested? And, how did it all begin for LaToya London?

It all began in Oakland, California, being exposed to various music. I loved to sing very early on, and was encouraged by my family to sing all the time.

Now you’re a San Francisco, CA, native, correct? So growing up in ‘Frisco,’ who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

I’m an Oakland, California, native. My strongest musical influences from the Bay Area were the powerhouse group En Vogue. Those ladies had the whole package!

With that being said, how do you classify your overall sound and/or style?

My sound is pretty versatile. I sing jazz, pop and R&B.

The masses first became familiar with you back in 2004 while you were competing on the third season of American Idol where you finished in fourth place — What are some of your fondest memories from this specific time in your life?

Having fun with my fellow cast-mates; especially when we went on tour! We really created a bond.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

I want people to feel related to. My music tells stories that give food for thought and different ways to think about things. Also, I want them to feel uplifted and empowered.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would love to have collaborated with the legendary Marvin Gaye. His vocals were so smooth, his swag was unmatched, and his songwriting brilliant. I think we would have made some really enchanting music.

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

Well, I’m not too versed on particular venues, however, I’ve experienced performing on arena stages and that was amazing. I can’t wait to have those opportunities again.

In terms of longevity, what do you feel it is that will continue to sustain you in this grueling industry?

Definitely staying grounded and true to who I am, first and foremost. Also, continuing to put out quality material that will excite and interest people.

Do you have any other outside/additional future aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

I’m truly into health and wellness. I do plan on expanding to brand to reflect that.

You’re also an actress having appeared on stage in productions of both The Color Purple and The Bodyguard — Is acting still on your radar? If so, anything coming up for you anytime soon?

Acting is definitely still on my radar. I would love to star in television and film.

To date, what has been your biggest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

Being nominated for a NAACP Theater Award and winning an Ovation Award for my various roles in The Color Purple Broadway National Tour and a Los Angeles production of the same.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Happy and enjoying life.

As for the immediate, what’s next for LaToya London?

A new album set for release in March 2021.

Is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?

My music is available on all digital and streaming platforms. Also, subscribe to my YouTube Channel for more videos and context. And, you can follow me on social media – Instagram: @latoyalondonofficial. Facebook: @Mslatoyalondon Twitter: @latoyalondon.

Any “closing” thought(s) for our readers?

I really hope you enjoy my new music. Also, if you haven’t done so already, take a listen to my 2005 album, Love & Life. There are so many gems on that album you will love. And please stay tuned for more…
