Kidd North Drowns His Sorrows in “Purple Rain” on His New Single

Illinois native Kidd North has returned with the bluesy new single “Purple Rain”, a contemplative number about turning to lean to help him process the end of a toxic relationship.

Produced by GRAMMY-nominated hitmaker Chef J, known for his work with the likes of Juice WRLD and Ski Mask The Slump God, the track finds the rising rapper’s melodious flows set against a downbeat backdrop of repeated piano motifs and skittering, trappy percussion.

Having impressed last year with his stellar debut “R.I.P. Juice”, a heartfelt ode to one of his biggest musical inspirations, the Joilet artist has been busy in the studio cooking up a slew of follow-up singles, with “Purple Rain” serving as an illuminatory glimpse into the musical direction we can expect him to go down in the future.

Kidd North has shed light on the meaning behind the song: “Purple Rain” is about a toxic relationship that I had in high school with one of my exes. I went through the painful feeling of not being good enough for her, but for some reason I still longed for her acceptance. Why do we mourn relationships that are bad for us?”
