Musician Ben AKA Flojobenz is the Artist to Watch of 2021

With the New Year in full swing, many people are reinventing themselves and finding new things to put their time and energy into. For some that’s work, for others it’s creative energy. Flojobenz is here to kick off 2021 in the most effective way he knows how, new music. He first made his debut last October with his latest single “thedancesong.” While this song is about 2 years old, he had the creative foresight to release it at just the right time. “Though much of that time was procrastinating, I spent many months working on a video, choreography, a cover, and promotion for the track, “ he said.

Throughout this tough year, Ben has been working tirelessly to make his upcoming work very personal and innovative. The EP he plans on releasing is called “METAMORPHOSIS” which signifies his growth as a person and artist, similar to a butterfly spreading its wings.

“I’ve also been working on singles to release before the project. Outside of music, I’m preparing a vlogging channel and a gaming channel for youtube. This will help me push out more content while I take my time working on the bigger projects.”

With so many facets, he is making the most of his time at home. But, how did he get here? Growing up in Chicago, he has music influences from some of the biggest names in the industry. He was never confident in his talents until one day at 9 years old, his mom made him sing “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” She loved the way he sang it, and encouraged him to attend church choirs, where he would land a lot of solos. Music has always been in his blood, and he finds inspiration everywhere. “I love music’s healing properties. Life is hard. Still, the birds sing. Your everyday person probably sings and listens to music on their way to work. Some people turn music on when they’re sad, or when they’re happy. it can heal any rifts you may have within and rejuvenate even the oldest souls.”

From there, he attended the University of Illinois and found his own voice. “I am inspired heavily from eras, anything from the funky 70s to the psychedelic 20s. I aspire to make music that feels old but isn’t. At the same time, I would also like to push boundaries on music as much as possible. I hope I pioneer a new space in music one day,” he said.

From his days of producing at college, he has accomplished so much. From singing in his hometown bars and gathering large crowds (pre-pandemic), producing many singles with Sundé that are sure to be hits once released, and being a notable name on various social media platforms including the career making TikTok app. He is a name to look out for in 2021.
