Danko Jones On His New Album “Power Trio,” KISS, Life During COVID-19, Future Plans & More

While the world has changed dramatically over the past 25 years, Danko Jones most definitely has not, and the proof comes with his 10th full-length studio album 2021’s Power Trio. Power Trio, it is such a simple, self-evident title, but one loaded with significance, as it speaks to the special triangular alchemy Jones shares with his bassist JC and drummer Rich Knox, while also staking out the band’s place on a storied lineage of 3-piece titans like the Jimi Hendrix Experience, ZZ Top, Rush, Motörhead, Venom, Dinosaur Jr., and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. While it features no songs about viruses, hand sanitizer or Dr. Fauci, Power Trio is a product of the current global pandemic, yet it still delivers the classic hard rock sound and melodic earworms any KISS Army member would expect.

Power Trio is indeed a proper follow-up to the electrifying, world-charting album, A Rock Supreme, as released in 2019. It finds the band once again tapping into the production prowess of Eric Ratz, who previously amped up the bone-breaking boogie of 2017’s Wild Cat and 2015’s Fire Music. While the borders of Jones’ native Canada are only opening this month, Jones and band have plans to hit the UK in December 2021 and the rest of Europe in April, May and June 2022. Prior to the world re-opening to touring musicians after COVID-19 closed it down for over a year, Jones had kept busy as the host of The Official Danko Jones Podcast and the Three’s Company-themed The Regal Beagle Podcast.

On July 22, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Danko Jones for a second time. Besides Power Trio, we talked about KISS, Van Halen, life during COVID-19, future plans and podcasting. More on Jones and Power Trio — due out August 27, 2021 — can be found by clicking here, here and here.
