Who Is Athena?!

Meet Athena, who’s best known as the #1 female streamer for the award-winning video game, Rocket League. Her current social views & followers amount to 48M and she recently announced her signing to the prominent esports organization, Team Envy.On August 6, she went from gamer to singer-songwriter, as she released her first single, “Eternal” with Grammy-nominated duo, smle.

We wanted to know more about this amazing multi-hyphenate talent so we had her weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in, who is Athena the artist?

She’s just a girl from Texas that wants people to see another side of her and hopefully share experiences that people can relate to. I want my career as an artist to introduce this part of my life that people aren’t expecting.

You made your bones as the #1 female Rocket League streamer – what pushed you into that arena?

I started out streaming as a joke in 2016 but when I got into playing Rocket League, everything just took off. I was at the right place at the right time with a little bit of luck.

Now you are taking center stage as an artist, what was the defining moment that brought you to music?

When I was contacted by smle to collaborate on a song, that was the moment that I really do think pushed me into a whole new world. One that previously, I was afraid of stepping into. I found myself falling in love with creating music and putting words to my emotions.

Tell us about your debut single Eternal and what it means for you!

It will forever be the song that changed my life. To be able to release “Eternal” after working on it for months is a dream. I have always been passionate about music and to finally be able to take this step into the music world is extremely exciting.

What’s coming next from you?

After releasing this song, 100% expect more music from me coming soon!

What’s been the funniest WTF moment for you thus far in your gaming career?

I think it would have to be going viral on TikTok for hitting the crossbar and having a move in Rocket League named after me called the “Athena Flick”… I will never be able to escape that!

How does it feel to get your first official song out to the masses?

Music has heavily impacted my life and I hope this song will resonate with and inspire people. I feel relieved that I’m able to finally talk about it after keeping it a secret all these months.

What is the most satisfying thing about making music?

After spending hours and sessions on a track, to be able to listen to the final product is so rewarding. Also, I have really enjoyed seeing people’s reactions. I don’t think people will be expecting this from me and I can’t wait to blow them away with what we’ve created.
