“Fanny: The Right To Rock” Director Bobbi Jo Hart & Fanny’s June Millington On This Year’s Nashville Film Festival & More

Earlier this month, The Nashville Film Festival — also known as NashFilm — announced its full film program, including special events, official selections and more for the 52nd annual event. Kicking off this year’s edition on September 30, 2021 and running through October 6, 2021, the festival will include both in-person and online programming. It will showcase a total of 160 titles, including 45 feature-length films, more than 30 of these selections marking their U.S., North American and/or world premieres. The festival will feature plenty of top-tier music-centric selections, including Fanny: The Right To Rock, Hard Luck Love Song, a-ha: The Movie, and Brian Wilson: Long Promised Road.

The aforementioned Fanny: The Right To Rock tells the story of the groundbreaking band Fanny, which NPR called “the most masterful all-female band of the classic rock era” and David Bowie dubbed “one of the most important female bands in American rock.” Several years back, Fanny members reunited as Fanny Walked The Earth for their first album in decades. Decades prior, Fanny had landed a deal in 1969 with Reprise Records, becoming the first-ever all-female rock band to sign a record deal for a full-length album, paving the way for women musicians such as The Runaways, The Bangles and The Go-Go’s for decades to come. Fanny: The Right To Rock includes appearances — and subsequent praise — from the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and The Runaways’ Cherie Currie.

On September 20, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Fanny: The Right To Rock director Bobbi Jo Hart and Fanny guitarist June Millington via Zoom, as embedded below. We not only spoke about the film and its showing at the Nashville Film Festival, but also future projects for both of them. More on Hart, Millington and Fanny: The Right To Rock can be found by clicking here, here, here and here.
