BET Premieres Season 2 of Lena Waithe’s Breakout Hit Series “TWENTIES”

BET kicked off the season two premiere of its breakout hit series, “TWENTIES,” with a star-studded red carpet on Monday, October 11. The exclusive covid-tested event welcomed industry tastemakers, celebrities and cast members such as JoJo T. Gibbs, Christina Elmore, Gabrielle Graham, Jevon McFerrin and Madeleine Byrne. Executive Producer Lena Waithe was in attendance, as well as B. Scott, the Host of “TWENTIES AFTER-SHOW WITH B. SCOTT”, BET’s VP of Brand Strategy and Marketing Tiyale Hayes and notable guest Cynthia Erivo.

Guests has the pleasure of screening the first two episodes of the season, and were treated to passed hors d’ouevres, craft cocktails, kettle corn, gift bags and sounds by DJ Toneé Macara and DJ Ohla. The night also celebrated “Black canvas,” the concept of BET’s new visual identity, with a striking art installation highlighting the work of black artists like Adrienne Muse and Alexandria Greene. Mirroring the “TWENTIES” tagline, ‘Your Twenties Are a Work Of Art,’ “Black canvas” reflects the Network’s position as the destination for all forms of Black creative expression – for Black creators, Black talent and the BET audience. The new look reflects how BET has re-envisioned and actively re-engineered how the Network shows up, as the only brand that represents the fullness of the black experience. BET Executive, Tiyale Hayes, welcomed back B. Scott to the BET family in a touching introduction prior to the showing.

TWENTIES” premiered to critical acclaim with its first-time portrayal of a masculine-presenting Queer woman of color as the lead in a primetime showThe scripted series created and written by Waithe and Hillman Grad Productions stars JoJo T. Gibbs as Hattie, a queer Black girl who is chasing her dreams of being a screenwriter in Los Angeles alongside her two best friends, Marie and Nia, played by Christina Elmore and Gabrielle Graham respectively. While they live separate lives, the girls lean on each other for guidance as they navigate their twenties and test the limits of diversity, love, and inclusion. TWENTIES marks the first time the network has been nominated for a GLAAD Media Awards for a series.
