Photos: Slick Rick, Papoose, Tuma Basa & More Celebrate Hip Hop History Month with YouTube Music in NYC

Wednesday night YouTube Music celebrated Hip Hop History Month with a special panel discussion featuring Tuma Basa, YouTube Music’s Director of Black Music & Culture, Kevin Liles, CEO of 300 Entertainment; Power 105 DJ Nyla Simone and Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins, host of “Mogul”.

The event was attended by several of music’s most esteemed figures including “The Ruler” himself, Slick Rick, DJ D-Nice, CEO of Sony Music Publishing, Jon Platt, Atlantic Records CEO, Julie Greenwald, Columbia Records’ Head of Urban Music, Phylicia Fant, legendary music video director and co-host of Video Music Box, Ralph McDaniels, rapper Papoose, iconic photographer Jonny Nunez and many more. The night honored hip hop’s evolution from a form of expression and grassroots movement into a defining piece of American culture that has become synonymous with popular music.

YouTube Music has been honoring Hip Hop History Month all month by paying homage to the wide discography of the genre, including weekly featured playlists and a flagship “Hip Hop History Month” playlist that updates weekly highlighting a different era in hip hop history.
