Joss Stone On Her Upcoming “Never Forget My Love” Album, Dave Stewart, Nashville, Motherhood, Podcasting & More

With worldwide sales in excess of 15 million albums, Joss Stone is without question among the most iconic soul singers of the modern era. A preternaturally-gifted vocalist and songwriter whose remarkable career now spans two decades with no sign of slowing down, Stone was first discovered by many via a star-making BBC TV appearance at just 13 years of age. She ultimately made history with 2004’s RIAA Platinum-certified Mind Body & Soul album, becoming the then-youngest female artist to top the UK Albums Chart. Her credits also include collaborations with a “who’s who” of music royalty, including Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, Nas, Raphael Saadiq, A. R. Rahman, Damian Marley, and Sheila E.

Last month, Bay Street Records announced the release of a new single by Joss Stone, “Never Forget My Love.” The track was produced and co-written by Bay Street Records founder Dave Stewart, who is also the award-winning co-founder, producer and songwriter behind The Eurhythmics. “Never Forget My Love” also happens to be the title track from Stone’s forthcoming studio album that is due out in early 2022. The duo wrote every song for the new record on acoustic guitar at Bay Street Studios in the Bahamas and then recorded all the tracks at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio. The project marks Stone’s first full-length LP in more than 5 years, as well as her first new music with Stewart in over a decade.

Beyond the forthcoming Never Forget My Love album, Joss Stone kept plenty busy over the last 2 years with other creative projects. She created and hosts the original podcast series A Cuppa Happy, which saw her engaging in-depth conversations with a host of guests — including public intellectuals and pop culture figures alike — and launched the Facebook Live series known as Cooking With Joss.

On December 15, 2021, I had the pleasure of speaking with Joss Stone via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Never Forget My Love, A Cuppa Happy and Cooking With Joss, we discussed her creative process, what it is like working with Dave Stewart, musical influences, motherhood and happiness. One of the most interview experiences I have ever had. More on Stone can be found here, here and here.
