0Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson On The Band’s New “The Zealot Gene” Album, Future Plans & More
With more than 30 albums to its credit and sales totaling more than 50 million, Jethro Tull continues one of the most successful rock bands of all-time. As led by Ian Anderson, Tull still continue to tour throughout the world, entertaining audiences of all ages. Recently, Anderson and Tull announced details for the group’s first studio album of new material in over 18 years. The Zealot Gene will see a January 28, 2022 release via Inside Out Music, from which the album’s third single “Sad City Sisters” was released online to all key DSPs; that single’s music video was helmed by director Sam Chegini.
A record that began to take shape in 2017, The Zealot Gene will be offered in the following formats: Special Edition Digipak CD, Gatefold 2LP+CD+LP-booklet, Limited 2CD+Blu-ray Artbook, and Limited Deluxe 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Artbook; the Deluxe 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Artbook comes on white vinyl, includes a 3rd LP with the full-length’s rough demos and a slipmat and a numbered art print, while its Blu-ray includes a 5.1 surround sound mix by Jakko Jakszyk (King Crimson). In the words of renowned publication Classic Rock Magazine, this new album is “light, bright, tight and recognisably Tull.”
On January 14, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Ian Anderson via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond The Zealot Gene, we spoke about the future of Jethro Tull — which also includes guitarist Joe Parrish-James, drummer Scott Hammond, pianist/keyboardist John O’Hara and bassist David Goodier — and what life has been like for him during COVID-19. More information on Anderson and Tull — including The Zealot Gene and upcoming tour dates — can be found by clicking here, here and here.
