London MC Central Cee’s Drops Highly-Anticipated ’23’ Mixtape

Central Cee‘s new mixtape, 23 just dropped and it’s one for the books. With over a billion global streams, and currently breaking in a way no UK rapper has before, the 23-year-old (taking cues from Adele with the album title?) London native is on a mission to take his drill campaign worldwide. It’s been said that 23 is one of Cench’s most revealing projects to date, as he peels back the curtain on his journey to the top while showcasing the raw talent that allowed him to dominate the UK charts in 2021. Amidst the three BRIT award noms, numerous streaming accolades, and meteoric rise, Cench remains true to himself and the Shepherd’s Bush streets that raised him.

Backstory

Central Cee was born and raised in Shepherd’s Bush, a neighborhood in West London known for its role in the formation of legendary rock bands like The Who, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash. He started making music as a teenager, earning early co-signs from artists like Yungen, J Hus, and others, releasing his first project 17 in 2017.

Over the past year, Central Cee switched up his style, taking cues from the ascendant UK drill movement, and his star began to rise. Last June, he dropped the single “Day In The Life” on popular UK hip-hop YouTube channel GRM Daily, and it quickly took off–to date, it has over 34 million YouTube views. “Day In The Life” started Cench on an unstoppable upward rise, as his follow-up singles “Loading” (60 million views) and “Commitment Issues” each reached the Top 20 of the UK Official Charts.

Solidifying his newfound A-List status, Cench shared his debut album Wild West in March, debuting at #2 on the UK Albums Chart and earning the biggest sales of any debut in the UK in 2021. Cench and fellow Londoner Tion Wayne recently joined Ed Sheeran on the drill remix to his hit “Bad Habits.”
