Marissy Rose Brightman On Playing Kayla Sparks In “Against The Ropes,” Future Projects, New York & More

The new series Against The Ropes takes place in the world of teenagers, where Michaela Simmons is a shy teenager who — against all odds — begins training to become a professional wrestler. During this process, she will push her body to the limit and learn about herself and her sexuality. Not everyone will welcome her lifestyle including friends and family. She will meet some interesting characters along the way, while Simmons searches for acceptance and success within the complex world of professional wrestling.

The “real” Michaela Simmons began wrestling at age 13, and was invited to try out for the WWE at that time. Hammering home the point that you should always be who you are and follow your dreams, Simmons continues to wrestle to this day, recently competing in front of 20,000 people at the Arthur Ashe stadium in New York City for All Elite Wrestling on TNT. And perhaps even more interesting than that, Simmons — as better known in-ring as Kayla Sparks — appeared on both WWE and AEW programming on the same night this past Friday; this was reportedly only the third time in history that a performer has been seen on televised WWE and non-WWE programming on the same night. In Against The Ropes, Marissy Rose Brightman portrays the aforementioned Simmons/Sparks. The show can be streamed via any ROKU-powered device, Amazon Fire-enabled TV or stick, and via the SVTV streaming network.

On February 28, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brightman, a New York native, about Against The Ropes and future career plans for her. More on Brightman and Against The Ropes — which also features Flavor Of Love and I Love Money star Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander, Maddy Mazzotta, David Smilow, Christina Dixon Reeves, Jackie Adragna and Chris Gaunt — can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
