Derrell Thomas Speaks About His Interest In Music

Derrell Thomas and my interest in music started as a young boy of 5 years old singing at my grandfather’s church which led to me to singing in my high school choir and learning the basics. As time passed, I was presented with an opportunity to sing with a group “3 of a Kind” and they were known to sing R&B music.

When God began speaking to my heart, I knew from then on, that my purpose was to serve the Lord with my gift of singing. While perfecting my vocals I taught myself to play the keyboard by ear and how to play the drums.

Throughout the years of development as an aspiring artist I was presented with another opportunity to sing with the “New Christanars”, a quartet group, for a few years. This allowed other doors of opportunities to be opened. I went on to do opening performances for “Mighty Clouds of Joy” and I received five nominations for the Rhythm of Gospel Awards. After getting my feet wet, I was moved by God to become a solo artist and my world was turned around in many ways.

I had the pleasure of opening for Yolanda Adams, Josh Groban, and Byron Cage. I even had the great opportunity to sing on the Bobby Jones show “Impact tv”. I have traveled to many cities singing the praises of the Lord at many events and churches throughout my 25+ years of singing. I was also blessed to have the chance to be a praise and worship leader in my home church. God has given me a gift and I do my best to allow him to use me and my gift when he grants me with opportunities as I have mentioned previously.

I have a single out at this time called “Thank you Lord” that will get you up and out of your seat, standing and getting your praise on. The song represents how thankful I am that God continues to bless me in more ways than I can ever imagine. I also have a video on YouTube titled “My All an All”. This song was written in a very difficult time of my life when I was homeless and had nothing to depend on but God because all an all I knew he would never leave my side. Currently I am in the process of producing some new music to keep my fans happy and entertained and most importantly to continue to let God speak to his people through me and through my gift.
