The Hype Magazine got KC Supreme to weigh in on a few things

From the inside looking out, who is KC Supreme?

I am just a guy from Salt Lake City who had a dream and decided to take the risk pursue it. Family is a very important aspect of my life, my wife and kids are the reason I do everything that I do. My friends are also very important to me and everybody in Internet Money are like brothers to me. My city is very important to me as well, I got love for Salt Lake and I am very proud to be representing it. Like most creatives I sometimes suffer from anxiety and imposter syndrome. There are so many ups and downs as a music producer, sometimes you doubt yourself, sometimes you are on top of the world.

What inspires you to make music?

When I hear really amazing music it inspires me to try and make music that is on par or better than that. Good music just gives you a feeling, and I want to try and give other people that feeling. Seeing my friends & peers succeed is another inspiration. The other members of Internet Money have obviously accomplished some amazing things and that always sparks inspiration and motivation in me.

What did it feel like to get your first Gold record?

My first gold record was YK Osiris – “Valentine”, and that feeling was amazing, especially when the plaque showed up and I could hang it on my wall. It’s a high that you are always chasing, and as you get more and more plaques that feeling is harder to get again. It’s crazy because it’s become normalized for me to have plaques, then every once in a while someone comes over and is amazed at them, and I realize how rare it is to have them and I get that feeling all over again. I’m grateful to be in this position.

How has your creative process changed throughout your career?

When I was first starting out I was only selling beats online and was focused on making complicated beats that would impress or compete with the other prominent online producers. When I finally got into the music industry and started working with artists and getting placements, I realized that artists prefer to record to more simple beats. That realization really changed my entire mindset; make beats for impressing artists not for impressing other producers.

Did the pandemic affect how you create?

The entire start of my career was working at home, selling beats online, never having to travel or leave Salt Lake. When I joined Internet Money in 2016 I had to start traveling to places like Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Atlanta. When the pandemic started in March 2020 I had just signed to Universal Music and was planning to start traveling to Los Angeles more and even possibly moving there. So after right after signing I was stuck at home doing Virtual Zoom sessions. It was definitely a bummer and not being able to go to LA for a while was frustrating. It felt like I wasn’t able to take full advantage of the usual perks of signing a deal. But around August 2020 I decided I had to get back to it and started traveling again. Since then I don’t feel like the pandemic affected my career very much. I am blessed to be in a career where I am able to work from home and send packs via email when necessary.

What’s the most important thing we should know about you?

I am a genuine loyal person, I’m fair when it comes to business and I love to build real connections with people.
