Salma Hindy On Her New Album “Born On 9/11,” Signing With Comedy Records, Opening Shows For Chelsea Handler & More

Salma Hindy is a first generation Egyptian-Canadian comedian. She is a graduate of Stand Up Comedy from Second City Toronto. As part of her fast rise within the comedy world, Hindy has opened for Maz Jobrani, Ken Jeong, Beth Stelling and James Adomian, beyond performing at JFL NorthWest, the SF Sketchfest, the Women in Comedy Festival in Boston, the Chicago Women Funny Fest and the Arab-American New York Comedy Festival. She has been featured on the CBC, Globe and Mail, CityNews and Refinery29, beyond performing on CBC Gem’s “New Wave of StandUp,” giving a TEDx talk about her emotional journey in comedy, and starring in the name-sake documentary Salma.

Recently Salma Hindy made headlines by opening up a series of shows for Chelsea Handler in Canada. Meaning, Hindy has been doing a lot of interviews in support of her forthcoming album for Comedy Records titled Born On 9/11. Born On 9/11 will be released on March 25, 2022 and features 13 tracks, including stories about her experiences as a Muslim woman — who just happened to be born on September 11th. On a personal basis, Hindy recently relocated from Canada to New York City, where she is currently working in some writers’ rooms on some not-yet-announced projects.

On March 16, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Salma Hindy via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Hindy and Born On 9/11 can be found online by clicking here, here, here and here.
