0How Facing The Truth Helped Coach Randy G. Howell Jr. Deal With His Depression and Thrive
With systemic racism having profound and pervasive impacts on Black masculinity and mental health (according to the National Association of Mental Health), it can be difficult for men to get access to mental health care. With the stigmas associated with mental health treatment, many men choose to suffer in silence.
When his Black marriage began to suffer challenges in the form of a breakdown in communication, Randy G. Howell Jr. realized he needed support and faced a tough decision. He’d been struggling to find his way as an Entrepreneur in the earlier part of his journey, triggering feelings of anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts to rise to the surface. Although he’d been avoiding these difficult conversations with his wife, it became clear that he would need to come clean with her in order to receive the support she was willing and ready to give. Randy was able to lean into authenticity and unpack some difficult memories in his childhood relationship with his parents where he felt deeply hurt and invalidated. Randy’s decision to face his truth, seek support and subsequently repair the bond in his marriage, allowed him to go on to build a successful business and thriving practice as a life coach.
Now, “Truth Coach” Randy guides his clients throughout the process of taking the power back in their lives and uncovering the truth behind what holds them back from achieving their dreams. As a coach, his mission is to pilot others in living in their personal truth. Growing in his notoriety, Randy’s coaching has been celebrated by celebrity makeup artist Nydia Figueria, television personality Antoine Von Boozier and DJ Mama Kim of Love & Hip Hop NYC to name a few.
