Taran Killam On His Alma Mater LACHSA, “Saturday Night Live,” Future Plans, Music & More

The Los Angeles County High School for the Arts — LACHSA, for short — offers a specialized program combining college-preparatory academic instruction and conservatory-style training in the visual and performing arts. Founded in 1985, the tuition-free public school is run by the Los Angeles County Office of Education in partnership with, and on the campus of California State University, Los Angeles. Arguably the #1 Arts High School in America, LACHSA graduates frequently attend schools like Julliard, Berklee School of Music, CalArts, NYU Tisch, RISD, Oberlin, Yale, Art Institute of Chicago, USC, Michigan and Carnegie Mellon. Related to that, LACSHA will host its 5th annual Future Artist Gala at The Novo in L.A. Live on April 28, 2022, as hosted by alumni Taran Killam, Corbin Bleu and Andrew Chappelle.

The aforementioned Taran Killam holds the distinction of being a cast member on 4 different popular sketch comedy shows (Saturday Night Live, MADtv, All That, Wild ‘N Out), yet that is only the start of his credits as an actor. 2017’s Killing Gunther — a film written by and starring Killam — marked Killam’s directorial debut. It also starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bobby Moynihan and Cobie Smulders. This project led to Killam becoming more in-demand as a director, with a second feature film currently said to be in the works. Meanwhile, Killam also excelled within the theatrical world with an acclaimed starring turn as King George III in the Broadway production of Hamilton.

On April 22, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Taran Killam via Zoom, as embedded below. More on Killam and his work with LACHSA can be found online by clicking here, here and here.
