0Everclear’s Art Alexakis On The 30th Anniversary Reissue Of “World Of Noise,” Recording Plans, Summerland, Van Halen & More
This summer, Everclear — as comprised of vocalist/guitarist Art Alexakis, guitarist Davey French, bassist Freddy Herrera and drummer Brian Nolan — are doing what they like to do most summers: tour as much as humanly possible, often with fellow ’90s alt rock brethren on the bill. But this year, the band’s calendar features a major milestone amid a career already filled with massive achievements, as 2022 marks Everclear’s 30th anniversary as a band. It is as good a reason as any to kick things up a notch, and Everclear is currently out for a 25+ date North American tour with Fastball and The Nixons.
While many touring-centric artists kept idle during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Everclear frontman Art Alexakis kept very busy during the pandemic. Among his activities was sorting through boxes and boxes of old Everclear memorabilia and studio tapes that had been in storage for years, and while doing so, he unearthed the original masters for Everclear’s first album, World Of Noise. Since then, the album has been professionally-preserved and digitized, with World Of Noise — and a host of bonus tracks — finally made available for the first time for all the digital music streaming services; a vinyl release of World Of Noise has also been in the works for fans, per Alexakis, beyond a CD version.
In the three decades since World Of Noise hit stores, Everclear has helmed four gold or platinum albums, sold over six million records, and scored 12 Top 40 Hit Singles within the Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and Adult Top 40 radio formats. Furthermore Everclear — whose hits include “Santa Monica,” “Father of Mine,” “I Will Buy You A New Life,” “Wonderful” and “Everything To Everyone” — has played thousands of shows and earned a GRAMMY nomination. Alexakis has also found success as an actor, producer and entrepreneur, and the earlier-mentioned touring “often with fellow ’90s alt rock brethren on the bill,” led to the creation of the annual (except in 2022) Summerland Tour. Beyond releasing his first solo album in 2019, Sun Songs, Alexakis puts out new Everclear singles each year.
On August 1, 2022, I had the pleasure of speaking with Art Alexakis again, this time via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond Everclear’s past, present and future, we spoke about his musical influences and career aspirations. More on Alexakis and Everclear can be found by clicking here, here and here.
