0Is Jk D Animator the Future of Hip Hop Beef with His Dragonflow Z?
If you haven’t heard of Jk D Animator, you’ve probably seen one of his many animations that have taken the internet by storm. With the wave of new post pandemic content creators utilising social media to make a name for themselves, it can be hard to stand out, but from his unique art style to his cultural sense of humour, Jk manages to do just that.
After his first Drake, Lil Baby video went viral, he was able to grow his channel by creating a number of funny behind the scene studio parody skits, featuring artists such as J Cole, Kanye West, and Kendrick Lamar to name a few. Now, with a current following of over 1.5 million across Instagram (163k), YouTube (425k), and TikTok (975k), he has gone on to create a new form of battle rap which many are describing as iconic for the culture. While rap beef has taken many forms over the years, the most notably being the recent ‘VERZUZ’ format that emerged out of the pandemic, Jk has taken an original approach, reimagining the concept in a novel and very interesting way.
His new format takes place in the form of a show known as Dragonflow Z, and with over 3 million views to date, the series is somehow able to fuse the best of hip hop with amazing high stakes action, story and comedy; leaving the viewer with a marvel level cinematic experience all in under 10 minutes. While fans of anime will also be satisfied as the series is heavily influenced by the genre, there are a number of fun easter eggs scattered throughout each episode that give the real hip hop and anime heads something extra special to enjoy.
With the main premise for the show following a mysterious grand master as he recruits the best rappers for his upcoming rap tournament of power, the series is setting up to present many of the legendary rap battles that a lot of people have been waiting for.
However, is Jk D Animator the future of Hip Hop Beef? Only time will tell but, as of this publication, the most recent episode titled The Royal Rumble featuring 2pac, Biggie, XXX Tentacion, Juice Wrld, and King Von has been hailed as one of the best fan-made fights currently trending on Youtube; and after creating one of the most original concepts to emerge in the hip hop space in years, it feels like it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing his work pop up on more major networks.
