Interviewing The World’s Leading MMA & UFC Analyst – TheWeasle

“TheWeasle” is one of the biggest MMA influencers in the world. At present, The Weasle is arguably the world’s best UFC/MMA analyst. The Weasle predominantly covers the industry leader known as the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Other decorated UFC analysts and influencers include names such as Luke Thomas, Dan Hardy and Kiyon Kimora. The Weasle’s vast knowledge of MMA coupled with his critical thinking earned him the nickname “MMA Examiner”. His YouTube channel called “TheWeasle” has over 130 million total views and has amassed over 300 thousand subscribers. @TheWeasle is also verified on the YouTube platform. The Hype Magazine’s Life & Style correspondent, Charles Myambo (CM) had an interview with The Weasel (TW). Below are some excerpts from the interview.

CM: You are a proprietor of one of the biggest MMA fan channels worldwide. What events culminated in you deciding to launch your personal MMA channel?

TW: I appreciate the kind praise, thanks so much. The fight that I analyzed to start my channel was Amanda Nunes vs Ronda Rousey as I had a different perspective on how the fight went that way than anyone else. I focused on opening a new perspective on fights.

CM: Still on the subject of MMA, you seem to be a relatively skilled fighter yourself. What pushed you to focus more on covering the sport as opposed to pursuing a pro career as a fighter?

TW: I have trained for most of my life and it was my dream to chase a professional career in MMA, but health issues halted my plans for a while. I had time to think with ambition and passion out of my mind which made the dangers of fighting clearer. I’ve seen fighters come out of a living of professional fighting with all sorts of health issues, so I ultimately decided to focus my attention on creating content. I have many passions in life, so it wasn’t too hard of a decision to make.

CM: “TheWeasle” channel on YouTube currently has a remarkable audience of over 300K subscribers. UFC president Dana White has even referenced you on occasion. What is the long term vision with your platform?

TW: I honestly never really had a clear goal outside of helping educate the MMA community and grow the community larger. People telling me that I converted them to watch and/or train MMA is what really moves me, it means so much to me.

CM: I’d like to know some of the adversity and hurdles you have dealt with in your life thus far.

TW: To keep things short, I have had many adversities in my life. My childhood was quite chaotic to say the least. The environment I grew up in, the passing of close family members, and having to look over a younger brother through all this forced me to grow up very quickly. Responsibility became the biggest path in life for me at the age of 11. I believe my upbringing helped me expand my creative mind, as I always wanted to find escapes from real life so I learned video editing and also trained in martial arts.

CM: You have been quite complimentary of the UFC when it comes to putting on the best fights possible whereas the opposite is true for the sport of boxing. What about the UFC model do you think makes them successful in areas where boxing has failed?

TW: They put on the fights that people really want to see. Boxing has so much corrupt politics that you see the opposite, boxers go against those who people don’t want to see. They also put on quality fights almost every week (UFC Fight Night).

CM: You are quite a perceptive intellectual. I’m curious to know what your thoughts are about the proverbial “elephant in the room” – “UFC Fighter Pay”. Where do you stand on the subject?

TW: I am all for fighters getting more money. For what they do, they deserve all the riches, but I ultimately see flaws in the fighter’s decisions for themselves. There are so many kinds of ways the fighters can generate more money for themselves but that’s their lives and I’ve found it irrelevant for people to focus too much on it.

CM: Which of the current fighters on UFC’s active roster do you believe to have the potential to one day become “the” consensus “GOAT”?

TW: A fighter who has the skills and is on the right trajectory in terms of having a good championship reign so far, is Alexander Volkanovski. He is one of the best fighters I’ve ever seen. He does everything at a high level and has shown some of the highest fight IQ in the sport.
