2 Chainz Announced as Honda’s Battle of the Bands Halftime Show Performer

For the live return of Honda’s Battle of the Bands (HBOB) Invitational Showcase, GRAMMY Award-winning Hip Hop artist and HBCU alumni 2 Chainz is headlining the live halftime show performance on February 18 at Alabama State University (ASU) of which he is an alumnus. This will be the first time the nation’s premier showcase for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) marching bands and dance teams has been held on an HBCU campus.

The former Hornet is heading back to Alabama State University to hype up the crowd with his hits, as part of a historic year in which the first HBCU campus hosts HBOB, now in its 18th year. 2 Chainz will join fellow ASU alumnus and legendary comedian Rickey Smiley who will host the HBOB live event. Emmy and two-time NAACP Image Award-winning host, comedian, actress, author, and Prairie View A&M University alumna Loni Love will bring her talents to host the HBOB livestream.

“As an HBCU and Alabama State alum, I am always looking for ways to support the HBCU community and pay it forward, and performing at this year’s Honda Battle of the Bands is an incredible way to accomplish it,” said 2 Chainz. “HBOB brings together my commitment to supporting HBCU culture and my love for music and I’m not only excited to perform but looking forward to seeing the talented student musicians shine.”

The final six bands have been chosen to represent their alma mater and bring high-energy performances during this beloved celebration of HBCU culture. Each final participating school will have an all-expense paid trip to the Honda Battle of the Bands showcase, and for the first time, Honda is increasing the grant amounts giving $50,000 to each school to support their programs.

Tickets are still available at https://www.hondabattleofthebands.com/ to enjoy the most electrifying marching band event of the year!
