After Losing Her Daughter Margarett Miller Turned Her Pain Into Her Purpose

Many know Margarett Miller as a successful entrepreneur and paralegal. The San Francisco-based Beauty Salon, Leanna’s Beauty, became popular in the city.

What many don’t know is the motivation that drives her. In 2014, Miller lost her daughter, who was only five years old at the time to a form of streptococcal. The disease presented no symptoms and caught her entire family off guard. Even worse, she recalls the day that she held her daughter’s lifeless body, an image that played over and over again in her mind.

“My baby girl Leanna was taking a bath, and her older sister was fussing with her to get out. I then heard a scream from my oldest daughter that I instantly knew something wasn’t right,” said Miller. “I ran to see my daughter unconscious. I grabbed her and immediately performed CPR on her. I knew she was gone because it was just foam coming out her mouth.”

The beauty salon owner remembers her daughter as someone that was “full of love.” She explained that the love her daughter displayed to herself and others is what inspires her today.

In 2019, she launched Leanna’s Beauty, named after her daughter. Though the business has grown to be very successful and has accomplished many things, including surviving the pandemic, Miller still wanted to do something to help other grieving parents who also lost their children. Her main focus for 2023 is launching her nonprofit, “Finding Purpose Through Grief,” to help others.

“I want to be known as someone who did not let a tragedy overtake their life, a person full of ambition and motivation, and someone who loves to see others excel.”
