Impact Tech and Media company, COMMUNITYx, is sponsoring a press conference for Cashay Henderson the 31-year-old trans woman savagely murdered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin scheduled for June 14, 2023, 11 AM Central Time at the Diverse & Resilient headquarters: 2439 N. Holton St., Milwaukee. Cashay’s sister, Ada Henderson, will speak to the media for the first time, alongside COMMUNITYx CEO, Chloe Cheyenne. The two will discuss how The City of Milwaukee continues to fail its black and transgender residents and demand justice in Cashay’s case.

Cashay Henderson becomes part of a tragic trend
Cashay Henderson was a 31-year-old trans woman living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is described as having been a bubbly and compassionate woman who was also an active member of her community and supported various local LGBTQ+ organizations. On February 26, she was found in her apartment with a gunshot wound by firefighters, who were putting out the fire that was set in her apartment just moments after she was shot. Unfortunately, Cashay was the 3rd trans woman murdered in Milwaukee over the past 9 months according to the most recent data as reported by Elliot Hughes and Drake Bentley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and shared by USA Today in March of this year.

My family and I are disgusted by the way her case was handled by local police and government authorities. We want Cordelle Howze charged in her murder case, and we won’t rest until that happens. Man charged with the murder bragged to friend
Just days before her murder, Cordelle Howze was released from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections on parole. A friend drove him from Neenah to Milwaukee, where a day later he killed Cashay Henderson in her apartment. Howze has a long track record of criminal behavior and is a convicted felon. He has had 3 felony cases opened against him. He was out on parole when he murdered Cashay. After shooting her and setting her apartment on fire he pridefully let his friend know he had killed her. Howze boasted to his friend, “I caught a body of a disgusting a** tran”, clearly indicating this violent act was done intentionally out of discrimination and bigotry. It is clear he targeted her because she was a transgender woman.

We’ve seen time and time again that capital murder becomes a subjective question when it comes to Black, Gay, or Transgender people. Our lives are not protected by the law. Cashay’s life was very clearly not protected by the law. We are putting our own resources into fighting for Justice for Cashay because there is no other clear route to justice. When law enforcement, judges, and constitutional articles fail to protect us time and time again, we become forced to advocate for ourselves and others we care about,” says Chloë Cheyenne, Founder & CEO of COMMUNITYx.
Cashay Henderson becomes part of a national trend
“Transgender Black women have been under attack in Milwaukee and the US as a whole. The anti-trans rhetoric that is pervasive in our communities, state legislatures, and even in the chambers of Congress removes the respect and dignity trans individuals deserve and allows hatred and violence against this community to persist. This must stop and more must be done,” says Chris Allen, President and CEO of Diverse and Resilient

The upcoming press conference will highlight the facts of Cashay’s murder and the activities of the local courts and police department. The family will also express how they are being affected by Cashay’s murder and express clear demands to The City of Milwaukee, which are housed on the site www.Justice4Cashay.com.

Cheyenne adds “Cashay deserves justice. She is an American citizen and resident of Milwaukee who should have been protected in the same way that every single white person in the state is protected. Her race and gender identity should not matter. Governments exist to protect their citizens during times like these. All agencies involved must step up. We’re asking the public to join us in this urgent demand for Justice for Cashay. Make your voice heard – help us get justice for her. This family will not rest until that happens.”
