ABOUT DIEGO GONZALEZ:
Like a global beacon for emotion, Diego Gonzalez transmits heartache and hope around the world from his makeshift bedroom studio just outside of Seattle, WA. The 17-year-old singer, songwriter, and artist pours raw feeling into a pair of cushion-less broken earbuds (with frayed wires) hooked up to a finnicky old iPhone. He’s quietly captivated listeners around the world with an otherworldly D.I.Y. vision of alternative pop rooted in echoes of R&B, ethereal melodies and enigmatic production. Adopted at just 12-months-old, he immediately gravitated towards music. Over the years, he devoured records by everyone from Al Green and Post Malone to The Kid LAROI, Daniel Caesar, and charlieonnafriday. He spent two years in Mexico with his mother and older brother, absorbing the energy of a different culture. Playing football for as long as he could remember, he shined as a running back and outside linebacker until a spinal injury changed his course. Following the surgery and subsequent recovery, he downloaded BandLab, messed with the presets, and cooked up what would be his viral breakout “You & I.” It gradually reacted on social media before gaining incredible traction in Southeast Asia, specifically in Indonesia and Malaysia (a long way from Seattle). Between the original and “Sped Up” version, it tallied north of 33 million Spotify streams and counting in less than year. Signing to Island Records, he joins forces with international phenomenon Zack Tabudlo on a very special 2023 duet of “You & I,” paving the way for more to come.
