“Everything is Possible” Written by Randy Edelman featuring Grandmaster Melle Mel

The world is in shambles. If Jesus (or any universal spiritual realm) walked the earth in the midst of these present day times of chaos and unrest, what would his publicist suggest he do? She could have him address the planet with a life changing message, perhaps within a song, the universal language of all global citizens….Since Jesus rules the heavens he’s left it up to the Holy Grail of music composer Randy Edelman to dominate the task, and change the world. Therefore, on August 31, 2023 his song of hope, joy and inspiration was unveiled via the legendary Chicago House Music Trax Record label and entitled “EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE” by Randy Edelman Feat. Grandmaster Melle Mel. That very song will be unleashed simultaneously by Randy Edelman “solo” via New York’s Tribeca Records.

More than music royalty, Randy Edelman’s songs have been covered by some of the most prestigious entertainers on this side of history including Barry Manilow, Patti LaBelle, Dionne Warwick, Willy Nelson, Olivia, Newton-John, The Carpenters, Bing Crosby, Nelly, Blood, Sweat and Tears, and a wild array of others. Aside from that he remains one of the busiest and most demanded movie and television soundtrack architects with films including “Last of the Mohicans”, “Gettysburg”, “My Cousin Vinny”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “Ghostbusters ll”, the hit television series “MacGyver”, and over 100 others.

The story of this track “Everything is Possible” began as an album lost in Sweden, doomed to never be heard …..an emotional tale most comparatively like the saddest sentence ever written by Ernest Hemingway “For sale, Baby Shoes, Never Worn.” The album that has been thought of as “The Lost Album” was recorded in Sweden with the hope and promise of some commercial success, but even more than that the hope of letting the world celebrate some of the best music ever written. To the young songwriter’s disappointment and disillusionment,  the album was never released….from the words of Randy Edelman, “Anytime you put your guts, heart and passion into an artistic, creative endeavor and believe in it…a book, a painting, a piece of music…and it is saved and documented for all time… Someone, someday, somewhere is going to see it, read it, or hear it. So here it is …Finally…Everything Is Possible….Truer words were never spoken……BR

The story was a little different for 2xGrammy winner and voice of Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five. He was the first rapper to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Grammy Hall of Fame. He has been dubbed The Greatest Rapper of All Time according to a BBC poll of his peers. He has collaborated with artists, including Chaka Khan, Cher, Duran Duran, Lady Gaga, and a long list of others. The song “The Message” by him and The Furious Five was added to the United States National Archives of Historic Recordings, and the fraction became responsible for inventing the phrase Hip Hop…

Then suddenly after everything he’s accomplished, despite his illustrious career Grandmaster Melle Mel became defined by his mistake, and reminded on a daily basis of how he failed after a feud with rapper Eminem. Mel said something to the affect that Slim Shady made number 5 on Billboards top 50 rappers list because he was white. Only he wasn’t talking about his race, he was talking about the hip hop culture. Culture creates awareness. It entertains, it creates sadness and can encourage commitment to a social contract. Culture is that powerful.

It creates icons that we follow that we see ourselves in. It can tell us to love, hate, accept, tolerate and embrace. Hip Hop by definition is a “culture and art movement that was created by African-Americans pioneered from black American Street Culture.” Mel also was all too familiar with the phrase “Culture Vulture”, which is by definition “someone who steals traits, language, and fashion from another ethnic or social group, in order to create their own identity.”

Sadly, people tend to choose to remember your failures more than your victories. After a heartfelt apology the press continues to taunt him. After one bad season, he is forced to live condemned…. “Everything is Possible” became his redemption, his way back, his inspiration. Matthew 7:1 Judge not that you be not judged….sometimes in the unforgiving music industry artists are challenged to continuously seek to climb the ladder of success, a metaphor which describes the process we go through as individuals to achieve success. As described by Stephen Covey, “people often climb the ladder only to find it against the wrong wall”…..

Grandmaster Melle Mel

The iconic Grandmaster Melle Mel climbed up the 3 flights of rickety wooden stairs disguised by a mustard colored worn woolen carpet to The Attic Studio in the Bronx NY, where the groan of a shifting wood beam was drowned out by the state of the art equipment with the best technology available. Nervous and even a bit intimidated by the vast accomplishments of composer Randy Edelman, Mel entered the tiny, darkened closet that served as a portal for vocal sound and apprehensively started his rhyme. As he began to record his confidence level quickly heightened and the rap to Edelman’s already explosive, positive and inspirational song was exquisitely born.

Together they sing and pave the way through the music for the souls who were told they can’t. The underdogs, the outlanders, those who are praying for a miracle. It’s a song for this world who can’t seem to unite. It’s for the times when tears take the place of rain if the sun fails us. Not every tempest passes in an instant, not every deluge can be brushed off. We can wait for the blue skies to be restored, we can take the plunge and defy the elements and seize the day…..Never forget…. “Everything is Possible.”

“Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it”… Eckhart Tolle
