Born and raised in Key West, FL, pop vocalist Liza Jane had to find her voice way out in the middle of nowhere. Pursuing classical vocal training in opera at Belmont University, Liza Jane naturally found her way into the songwriting circles of her Nashville surroundings, however, her songs and heart yearned for Pop and Dance music and she headed to Los Angeles to find and build a team to grow her sound.
With a relocation to Los Angeles, her impressive voice and professional resonance drew the attention and efforts of reciprocally talented collaborators and supporters. We got Liza to weigh in on a few things!
At what point did you know you wanted to start music?
I have been singing since I was two years old. I told my mother that I was born to sing. It has always been my passion and I never wanted to do anything else.
What was your reaction to the song “Man or Monster” blowing up?
I am beyond grateful that so many people resonate with the song because it hits home for me. The whole storyline and music video was based on my personal experiences and it meant a lot for me to express my feelings into art and share it with the world.
Who are some artists that resonate with your music too?
I resonate with Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus because they express their creativity in their art and have gone through similar situations in life.
What are some of the personal struggles you’ve faced that have been put into your songs, especially with lyrics as deep as these?
My lyrics reflect some of my personal struggles that I’ve had with relationships. Sometimes you think you meet the right person in your life and all is going well and then you find out they’re not who they presented themselves to be and they have another side to them. Which is exactly what I was thinking “Is there really a man or are they all just some kind of monster? Or someone wearing a mask. Because they are certainly acting like Jekyll or Hyde
What does the collaboration with director Joseph Spence do to improve the music videos?
Meeting Joseph Spence was a great experience. With his gentle nature, he knew how to bring my song to life. He can bring out the best in me and make the whole process seem effortless.
What do you think has been the key formula in your music blowing up across all platforms?
Most people can relate to my songs because it comes from my heart and soul, but also a lot of hard work, great production, luck, and the right team by your side.
What were your favorite parts about “Man or the Monster”?
My favorite part was acting on screen for the first time during the music video to really tie the story all together and to portray what was happening behind the scenes and give more visual context to the story.
What is the next step for you and your career?
I’m going to continue promoting this song, writing and releasing more music, performing live shows, hopefully getting into acting, and to keep discovering and working on myself.
