Lil Durk – Green Light

The most consistent and melodic of Chicago’s Class of 2012 rappers, Lil Durk is the fore-father of Chicago’s rap renaissance. Turning back the clock with his latest single, Durk shares “Green Light.” Foregoing the melodic auto-tune that characterizes much of Durk’s recent work, “Green Light” is a hard-hitting drill anthem, radiating with the rawness of the rapper’s breakout mixtapes. “Green Light” is a standout track from Love Songs 4 The Streets 2, Durk’s upcoming album, dropping August 2nd via Alamo Records/Interscope.

The proper follow-up to November’s Signed To The Streets 3, Love Songs 4 The Streets 2 stresses the duality of Durk, presenting the face he shows at home with his fiancé India with smooth and emotionally intelligent romantic jams and projecting his street strength on intense anthems. Last week, Durk collaborated with Meek Mill for “Bougie,” a hook-filled banger that blends Durk’s soaring melodies with Meek’s breathless intensity. “Bougie” currently enjoys prominent placement on Spotify’s Most Necessary and Off The Strength playlists, where it sits alongside “Like That,” the album’s King Von-featuring first single. The sequel to 2017’s Love Songs For The Streets, a 9-track mixtape that kickstarted Durk’s rise from local heroism to mainstream success, Love Songs 4 The Streets 2 arrives on August 2nd via Alamo Records.
