G Herbo Returns With Music Video For “Gangbangin”

Tastemaker-approved Chicago hip-hop heavy-hitter G Herbo uncovers the music video for his single “Gangbangin.” The song pops off as the latest standout from his critically acclaimed new album, PTSD, available now.

The visual captures the palpable tension of the track. Over a jarring, yet sparse beat, Herbo’s commanding flow captivates with darkness and dynamics all at once. The clip continues what has become a tradition of cinematic and provocative videos, bringing listeners deeper into his story. Among widespread acclaim, Rolling Out selected “Gangbangin” among “the stand out tracks” and added, “Herbo gave us a classic and continues the tradition of Chicago rappers providing substance.” Meanwhile, the tune tallied over half-a-million streams.

Within just a week, PTSD has already surpassed 9.4 million total streams on Spotify alone. Complex singled out the record as part of its “Best New Music This Week” feature. The FADER named the title track “PTSD” [feat. Juice WRLD, Chance the Rapper, & Lil Uzi Vert] as one of “The 10 Best New Rap Songs Right Now” and dubbed it “a beautifully reflective posse cut.” Stereogum elaborated, “The Chicago rapper G Herbo is only 24, but he’s already a beloved elder statesman in his hometown — someone who came up with drill music as a teenager and who has influenced a couple of mini-generations after him.” Not to mention, Pitchfork named his “Funk Flex Freestyle 146” as “New Rap Song of the Day: The Ones,” stating, “It’s exhilarating to watch him.”

2020 remains the year of G Herbo…

Herbo heralded the album with a pair of bold and brash bangers befitting of his reputation as the foremost proponent of the Windy City. “In This Bitch” scored over 1.4 Million streams on Apple Music, and garnered the endorsement of Brooklyn Vegan and HipHopDX to name a few. Last week, he popped off on the slick and smooth anthem “Shooter” [feat. Jacquees]. In under seven days, it gathered 382.9K streams on Apple Music as HotNewHipHop dubbed it, “an R&B-rap track for the ladies.”

As a whole, PTSD tours the darkest corners of a psyche damaged by the everlasting cycle of inner city violence as witnessed firsthand by Herbo. On the gruff and gritty “Intro,” he spits with purpose, passion, and power. From the jump, he announces, “I do it for the have-s and have-nots,” as nineties production glistens. The intensity only ramps up from there on “Glass In The Face” [feat. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie]. A centerpiece of the record, “PTSD” [feat. Juice WRLD, Chance the Rapper, Lil Uzi Vert] unfolds as an emotionally charged confession, bringing together three of Chicago’s most influential voices—the late Juice Wrld, Chance, and Herbo—and elusive Philadelphia multiplatinum star Lil Uzi Vert. It paints a picture of urban decay and highlights a pervasive theme with the declaration, “Don’t stand too close to me, I got PTSD.” Meanwhile, soul samples bleed into a crossfire between Herbo and 21 Savage on “By Any Means.” Everything culminates on “Intuition” [feat. 2PRETTY & Sonta]. It offers a peek at the light at the end of the tunnel with heavenly vocals, and a skittering beat, and one final lyrical catharsis.

On the artwork for PTSD, he re-stitches a bullet-riddled American flag with stars representative of his loved ones who have passed away.
