0Julian LaMadrid On His New Single “Patience,” Signing With Arista Records, Future Plans & More
Born to Mexican immigrants, Julian LaMadrid moved to New York City from Dubai at the age of 18, crediting films like Taxi Driver and Midnight Cowboy as reasons to enroll in New York University’s film school. LaMadrid then graduated early upon signing with Sony Music Entertainment label Arista Records. But ultimately frustrated by the societal pressure to create data driven and social media-focused art, Julian LaMadrid set out to create an audible pathway towards the future of pop music. He brings a refreshingly-global perspective to his evolved musical craft, which includes influences from the New Wave, Punk, British Rock, Classic Rock and Bedroom Pop genres.
Since beginning his musical journey, Julian LaMadrid has been praised by plenty of notable tastemakers, including Wonderland, CLASH, Flaunt Magazine, TMRW Magazine, VMAN, 1883 Magazine, Popsugar and Billboard. “Patience” is LaMadrid’s latest single, following the April 2020 release of the hit single “My Time.” Prior to that in 2019, LaMadrid released his project Mala Noche, which featured the tracks, “Mess”, “Neon”, “Die Young”, “Red Car” and “Moment.” Not only did Julian compose and produce the entire Mala Noche project, yet he also directed all of the tracks’ accompanying visuals.
On October 6, 2020, I had the pleasure of interviewing Julian LaMadrid via Zoom, as embedded below. We discussed “Patience,” life during COVID-19, future plans, his punk roots and plenty more.
