Jack Irons On His New Double EP via ORG Music, His Years With The Chili Peppers & Pearl Jam, Future Recording & Touring Plans & More

A multi-instrumentalist who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Jack Irons may be best known as a founding member of Red Hot Chili Peppers and a former member of Pearl Jam. Irons’ recording and/or touring credits also include performing with the likes of Joe Strummer, The Wallflowers, Les Claypool, Eleven and Neil Young. Hard to pigeonhole stylistically, Irons is a great drummer and percussionist no matter the genre or collaborators he is playing with.

New from Jack Irons is a double EP on vinyl, as released earlier this month. A double EP on one disc, this release combines Irons’ 2019 EP Dream Of Luminous Blue with the brand new Koi Fish In Space EP, with one EP per side. These compositions on this ORG Records release take a more experimental approach than prior Irons releases, showcasing Irons’ unique talents both as a composer and player.

On March 9, 2022, I spoke with Jack Irons via Zoom, as embedded below. Beyond his new double EP vinyl release, we spoke about his creative process, his time with some of his old bands, future career plans, and whether he ever met David Lee Roth. More on Irons can be found here, here and here.
