Adisa Imani Christopher of ADIANIC Swimwear

The Past

Adisa Imani Christopher was born in Phoenix, Arizona. Just as a baby, her family relocated back to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands where she was then raised. She was always finding ways to express her creativity. She enjoyed art, whether it was drawing or sculpting. She took her first sewing class at the age of 9 and hated it, her final dress was something not appealing to the eyes. At age 12, in junior high school she took another sewing class. This time she really liked it and decided to take it to the next level. She started to make her own school uniforms and her peers loved her designs so they wanted one as well. Not too long after she made her first uniform, she got bored and started to create skirts, blouses, and shorts. She would make these for herself, her two sisters, and several friends and would all go out to events together. They called themselves the “walking business cards”, but it worked. Her clientele started building up rapidly. She was now the go-to girl for custom made designs.

In 2007 she decided to step up and make gowns. She created her first gown which was black crepe back satin with black and gold beaded lace. She and everyone else fell in love with the gown. By prom 2008, she made 7 dresses including her own, and several other cocktail dresses for their other senior events. In October of that year she moved to New York City where she began college and later on received her Associate’s Degree in Fashion Design.

Adisa is now the owner of her clothing line, ADIANIC (Ah-Dee-Ah-Neek), founded in 2008, but established in 2010. In 2011, she debuted her first two collections, which includes her Resort/Swimsuit 2012 Collection and Evening/Cocktail 2012 Collection. Her dresses has been featured at the Ms. Jamaica-US 2011 Pageant and the Ms. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican Friendship Pageant to name a few. Her collections were shown at the 2011 2nd Annual Caribbean Extravaganza Fashion Show in Brooklyn, and at the 2011 Virgin Islands Fashion Week (VIFW) on St. Thomas. She also launched her very first Carnival/Festival Troupe called the Radekal Ravaz in the 2012 Crucian Christmas Festival Parade in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

Adisa began working on her spring 2013 Collection in April of 2012. She debuted her 2013 Swimsuit Collection in June 2012 at the Plitzs Swimwear passion For Fashion Show which showcased 17 other designers in Manhattan, Bikini Under the Bridge Fashion Show in Brooklyn, STRUT “A Fashion Show like No Other” on St. Croix, and 3rd Annual Caribbean Extravaganza in Brooklyn.
The designer went on to designing for her winning pageant contestant, Jaielean Thomas, the reigning Ms. Caribbean-US. She took home the crown after sporting her Cultural Wear, Talent Costume, and Swimsuit all designed by Adisa. You may have seen her recent work on Basketball Wives LA, Malaysia Pargo and Bambi and R&B’s Lil Mo also spotted in her designs. Adisa has recently released her online boutique where you can purchase her designs.

The Present

Adisa has recently released her 2014 Swimsuit Collection for the very first time in Atlanta, GA at the Urban Vs Couture Fashion Show. The response from her very first showcase in Atlanta was a success and her pre-order sales are in high demand for this summer. She is scheduled to release her 2014 dress collection in mid-May, and as always he works on custom orders on a regular.

The Future

Adisa has plans of creating some ready-to-wear pieces that will soon be found in select boutiques and turn her small business into one of the most popular clothing brands with stores in an international level, but to still have her Custome-made and couture pieces by request.
