Who is Antix? #OfficialHype

As you see your self, who is Antix?

Antix is the culmination of all my life’s experiences, tragedies, successes, mistakes… It’s who I become when I need to give a voice to those parts of myself that I didn’t even realize were calling out to be heard. It’s my mouthpiece, my catharsis, and my indulgence. It is the only time in life that I can be truly and unrestrictedly honest.

Tell us about your current project?

Working with Grammy winners Steven Rinkoff and Jeff Bova on a new record. It is a departure from anything I have done before, in that we are introducing a whole new world of musicality, arrangement, song writing and composition to the music. I am moving away from the traditional structure of hip hop and working with gospel choirs, brass sections, guitars, cellos, hang drums, and singer song writers. I am bored with where hip hop/rap music is at the moment, and I do not really want to add more to that noise. Like it or hate what I do next, it is at least going to be different – that much I can guarantee.

What’s happened in your career that makes you feel this is the industry for you?

I don’t care about the industry at all. I care about the music. The industry is just a necessary avenue to putting the music out there into the ears and minds of the listeners. The greatest joy and satisfaction of my life comes from making music, and then hearing what affect it has had on someone’s life when they hear it. Being told by someone that my song changed their life, or pulled them back from the brink of suicide, or made them feel less alone etc. is why I do this. It is the greatest validation that I could ever receive and the only encouragement that I ever need to keep going.

What makes you the next great happening?

I don’t know about all that, but I do know that I am working to create some timeless music, that I can be proud of. The team that is working on it right now has been a part of music that as stood the test of time, not to mention huge commercial success. Like I said, I think that the creativity and originality in most of the mainstream hip hop world at the moment is deeply lacking. I am going to do my best to bring a little of that back with the next project I put out.

Are your currently signed to a label or have any situation in the making?

No label. Going to be shopping it all when it’s done soon. Potentially looking for distribution etc. Right now I am just in creative mode, all the business stuff will fall into place once the songs are right. It’s all about the songs for right now.

Who and what are your influences?

My influence is everything that happens to me. My world and all that goes on in it, is what inspires what I write, and the source is never ending. Musically though, I am listening to a lot of world, soul, funk and jazz music these days. I love musicianship, and hearing the different styles is really influential when thinking about how to incorporate it into what I do.

What should people expect from your upcoming 2016 projects?

Expect big songs, played by some of the world’s best session musicians, with my own lyrical brand fused into it. I am upping the ante now, it is a departure from what I have done in the past, but the lyricism, content and soul remains true.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

I’m coming.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I was doing a show in London one time and in the middle of a song some man ran across the venue and clean punched this guy in the head. He then very casually walked to the front of the crowd, pulled out a cigarette, lit it, threw his other hand up in the air and started bouncing his head to the music. It was how calm he was about the whole thing…
