On the Radio with Kansas City’s Own Big Will

Radio Host William “Big Will” Smith is a growing voice in the Kansas City market. His show blesses talent from all walks of the industry. Big Will takes pride in breaking regional artists. Mixing it up with interviews with some of the emerging names not only in music but business, Big Will’s show Studio 816 in the Mix is the remedy for a difficult market to crack.

We caught some time with the emerging radio host for some insight on what makes him tick:

What brought you to the entertainment industry, radio specifically?

I am great at meeting people and talking to people, so I was on a team that started to do Internet radio. They asked if I wanted a show, I said yes and I’ve been doing it since then.

Tell us the mission of your show?

My mission on my show is to give all types of talent exposure and I feel I can help break the music artist by playing their hot music on my show.

What’s the most interesting thing about being a radio show host?

It’s very cool, I get to meet cool people I thought I’d never meet that I liked when I was in school. Seeing their music videos and seeing them on TV. Ginuwine, Lil Flip, Spindarella from Salt n Pepa, Adina Howard, actress Cherie Johnson (Family Matters). I also met a great new friend, her name is Latoya Jackson, she is the cuz of Michael Jackson and The Jackson Five; now that a huge honor, to interview somebody from the iconic Jackson Family. I have been blessed to me one of the coolest A&R’s at G Unit South @itsyourboyJT. He gave me the honor to co-host the mixtapes he hosts and This Is 50 Get-signed our Die Trying Unsigned Acts Vol 12.

If you have a fire track and you would like to get on one of their mix tapes send it to me [email protected] in the subject line put Big Will Mixtapes.

You are hailing out of the Kansas City area, who’s coming up from your area we should be paying attention to?

Yes I love my City. Well I know everybody has his or her own talent so not really sure. I am not the one to answer that.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of radio…

I just like to go on walks, be with family and friends. I like to listen to music, concerts any fun thing that doesn’t cause any drama because that’s not me.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I say all these people talking about they are not African American they’re just American. Silly people who say we should get rid of the BET Awards and Black History Month. People who are very cold hearted and bitter and they try to blame everything on the best president ever, Obama. It’s not his fault because you made a bad choice.

This is Big Will and I always say, “Life is about the choice you make and I choose Big Will.” People, like the great Selena would say’s, “ The Impossible is possible.”

How do you take submissions for your show?

I’m always looking for interesting guests for my radio show. Follow and like my profiles to keep in touch.
