Five Questions with theWHOevers

theWHOevers is the eclectic hip-hop duo of DotKom and J. Arthur out of Chicago. With one foot firmly planted in the boom-bap motifs of hip-hop’s golden age and another reaching forward into the future of the genre, the pair creates music that is at once comfortable and progressive.  Although its evident the duos musical roots are influenced by a number of musical genres, they use inspiration, imagination and life experiences to produce honest lyrical content, consistently winning over even the most diverse crowds.

Formed in 2011, the combined power of wild-child lyrical genius DotKom and the soul-infused sounds of J. Arthur create a distinct and unique approach that provides audiences with a fresh and relevant sound for the modern age.  W? have shared the stage and opened up for Evidence of Dilated Peoples, Elzhi of Slum Village, Black Milk, Tanya Morgan, Psalm One, K-Os, Qwel and Maker of Typical Cats, Lyrics Born, Kids These Days, Denmark Vessey, THEESatisfaction, and ShowYouSuck.

A force to be reckoned with, theWHOevers are surely launching toward the forefront of today’s Chicago hip hop / Future Bounce scene.

Tell us about your current project!

We are working on an  EP entitled “R U DOWN,” the EP was supposed to drop this past summer but we were so busy traveling and taking our time on certain records for the project that we just finally wrapped it up. It’s suppose to be a fun feel good record you can vibe out to with friends. You guys can check our current singles R U DOWN , Waiting Game, & 4 Finger Ring featuring our homie Show You Suck.

Do you feel your current project is the best introduction to you as an artist?

I wouldn’t say its the best introduction but it’s great materiel in general  to grow with. We have such a heavy selection of records that we dropped within the past years that have definitely showed our growths as artist. We hope you guys take a chance to check those out! Find all the goodies at

What is the music landscape in your neck of the woods?

Man it’s absolutely amazing right now. Chicago is on a wave. We are blessed to see the younger youth rising to the masses. It’s great to bump shoulders with homies like Chance the Rapper, Saba, Lili K., ShowYouSuck, just to name a few. It’s very inspiring to be around it all.

What’s on your horizon for 2017?

Expect to see a lot more music and more travelling. Just growing and striving for more. Me and Dot both have solo endeavors we would like complete so be on the look out for our separate works as well.

The Hype Magazine wants to know: What’s been your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?! Or “WTF?!” moment thus far in your career?
