Hot New Pop Sensation Rilan Says Everything He Does On Stage is a WTF Moment!

Rilan (Label Submitted)

Back Story – Last year Rilan released his buzzed-about song titled “Money Talk” and was lauded by BillboardHe’s managed by Randy Jackson and often collaborates on his choreography with Richy Jackson who is Lady Gaga‘s creative director and choreographer known for her infamous Super Bowl performance. Rilan loves to say that he performs “popular music for unpopular people” and uses his platform to empower as many people as he can by relentlessly being himself. Recently Rilan followed up with another sizzling video for his latest single Love or Drugs

Of course The Hype Magazine got Rilan to weigh in on a few things!

From the outside looking in, who is the artist Rilan?!

I’m a lunatic. I’m a weirdo. I’m an outsider. I make pop music for unpopular people like myself. The cool kids have had their fun. Now it’s time for the freaks to take back music once and for all.

What brought you to the entertainment industry, music specifically?

I’ve always been a theatre kid, but as I got older, I realized I was tired of playing a part. I wanted to sing what I wanted to sing the way I wanted to sing it. I wanted to be me. I’m not normal. I never have been, and I never want to be. Normal is boring. It’s what everyone else does. Why would you ever want to be like everyone else? I was never invited to the table, and I’m glad I wasn’t. I don’t want to join them. I want to beat them. I’m throwing a wrench into every assembly line until normal goes up in flames and we can dance in the ruins of normality with big ass smiles on our faces.

What do you get from music?

Music is my own reality. It’s an escape from the real world and an invitation into a better one. It’s the building blocks of your own universe where anything and everything is possible. For me, it’s stardust and synthesizers and glorious chaos where we cry to the lyrics and dance away the tears to the beat. It’s every emotion in its purest form, and it’s mine to share with anyone who wants to take a trip to a place where weird is cool. My music is the best way to get to know me, so listen up and join the party.

Tell us about your current project and what it means for you in the grand scheme.

I’m inspired by everything I experience and witness. Right now it’s the apocalypse of Hollywood and the death of pop culture. The songs I’m writing are sarcastic and cheeky and sweetly sour. They’re what’s not yet on the radio. They’re the poison bubblegum pop I’ve been missing for years, and I’m bringing it back along with the lost arts of performance and spectacle. I’m excited to share my ridiculousness with you.

For new listeners, what song of yours would you pick as an introduction to you as an artist?

My new single “Love or Drugs.” It’s pop with a twist. It’s fun and catchy and sticks to the brain, but it’s also satirical and edgy and new. I don’t want to push the boundaries of pop. I want to destroy them. I’m carving out my own path for my pop parade, and everyone is invited to march with me.

Tell us a bit about your work and passions OUTSIDE of music…

I love out-of-the-box fashion, B horror movies, Party City, and my one-eyed dog, MoMo. I also love pretending I’m already famous because practice makes perfect.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” aka WTF?! moment…

Come to my show. Everything I do on stage is a WTF moment.
